Overarching praxis statement:
My work provides a platform for dancers in the arts community and in society at large. I work with a new form of inclusion through artistic creation as dancers with sensory or physical disability, and dancers without disability come together in an open and understanding environment.
Current art and/or research interest:
The first area of exploration would involve an in-depth study of diverse cultural perspectives on disability and dance across continents. This would entail collaborating with local experts, scholars, and community leaders in various countries to gain profound insights into the nuances of disability representation, societal attitudes, and artistic expression. This cross-cultural understanding will significantly inform the development of culturally sensitive choreographic narratives that transcend geographical and societal boundaries, resonating deeply with audiences worldwide.
I would like to expand integrated dance in the Wide East And Central Africa because currently there are only 3 active company and two are based in Kenya. We stand to gain more recognition in numbers and there is a need for inclusive dance as this disseminates the stigma and rejection that persons with disabilities feel. Because of cultural norms that has been persistently practiced having more visibility of persons with disability being a contributing member of the society will help greatly and what better way to do this using art and in the form of dance and movement, art cut across any society, culture or beliefs.
