Danica Maier, an American-born artist and academic based in the UK, has a diverse background in painting, textiles, and drawing. She has exhibited regularly in the UK and Europe and has over 25 years of experience in higher arts education, including positions at the University of Delaware and Goldsmiths University of London. Currently serving as an Associate Professor in Fine Art at Nottingham Trent University, she supervises PhD candidates, co-leads seminars for artistic-based researchers, and provides research mentoring. Maier is actively involved in residency projects, founding and leading The Summer Lodge (2009-2019) and collaborating with the Museum of Loss and Renewal for drawing-focused residencies in Italy and Orkney. Furthermore, she works as a qualified mentor and coach, supporting artists independently and working with cross-disciplinary colleagues through the Coaching Academy at NTU. She also serves as a peer reviewer for the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), contributing to the evaluation of artistic research projects.

In her artistic practice, Maier values collaborative projects that foster independent artwork alongside collective outcomes. She engages in artist-led initiatives such as "Returns," which explores post-industrial landscapes, communities, manufacturing, craft skills, and material histories. She co-leads "Bummock: New Artistic Responses to Unseen Parts of the Archive," investigating unseen archive sections for artistic research. Additionally, Maier collaborates with composer Martin Scheuregger on "Score: Mechanical Asynchronicity," exploring lace patterns for innovative visual-musical scores.
