Aleasha Chaunte is an artist who is interested in the restorative functions of art. She is researching the uses of arts practice in social and personal repair looking at how individuals and cultures "heal" after trauma. She is an artist who works primarily on audiences, finding ways to cue, gain consent and encourage authentic, public intimacy. Vehicles for her practice are ritual, the wisdom within practices of sharing fairy/folk/mythic tales, handmade crafting, and social justice.

OBJECT/SCULPTURE/JAM
WITH MICHAEL BOWDIDGE

Image: Michael Bowdidge

This 90 minute session will centre on a hands-on collaborative exploration of the practical and theoretical possibilities of object-based sculptural production. We'll also look briefly at what other artists working in this medium have achieved, and also explore whether the concerns and possibilities of this medium provide new ways of thinking about and responding to the climate crisis.

Cultural institutions and redistributive practices
WITH Carine Harmand

Image: © Tate (Joe Humphrys)

In this course, Carine Harmand, Curator at Tate Liverpool will discuss her most recent project and exhibition You Get a Car [Everybody Gets a Car]: RESOLVE Collective.

RESOLVE is a collective of creatives that combine architecture, engineering, technology and art to encourage community empowerment and address urgent societal challenges. You Get a Car [Everybody Gets a Car] is an experimental, process-driven project that redistributes materials, furniture and knowledge from Tate Liverpool in support of community-focused creative practice across the city.

As well as presenting the project and its scope, this session will encourage students to discuss what community impact can mean for different artistic practices and how artists can help institutions rethink their processes and networks.
