Airports
Berlin has two airports with excellent and cheap connections nationally and internationally: Tegel TXL and Schönefeld SXF. The airport code to search for all Berlin airports is BER. Kayak is a meta-engine of budget travel sites. If you register you can do searches with variable dates (+/- 3 days) on a range of discount sites and individual airlines simultaneously. Insurance (required)
Check your overseas medical insurance coverage and ask your medical insurance company if your policy applies overseas, and if it covers emergency expenses such as medical evacuation. If it does not, supplemental insurance will be needed. Check with the airline you book your flight with or google “travel international health insurance” to find a source.
