TRANSART ACADEMY
PREFLIGHT SCHOLARSHIP SESSIONS
FEBRUARY 1 - MAY 1
In our Academy Preflight PhD program, Transart Institute awards early PhD applicants a three-month jump on their studies. Beginning in February, you’ll meet monthly with a dedicated advisor to refine your proposal, develop your critical vocabulary, and get a head start on readings, while building relationships with current students, faculty, and your fellow incoming peers.
ORIENTATION MEETING
FEBRUARY 1, 2025: 16:00-17:30 UTC - ZOOM LINK (Recorded) AGENDA
MONTHLY PREFLIGHT MEETINGS
Three monthly orientation and sharing meetings will take place, with a common format, each of which will be facilitated by one of our three co-heads of PhD studies (Alessandra Cianetti, Michael Bowdidge, and Steve Dutton). These meetings will collectively offer a safe space for Preflight participants to share developments in their work in a supportive and informal environment, and also provide an opportunity for them to ask any questions that have come up, in conversation with either peers or supervisors.

MONTHLY AdVISOR MEETINGS
After a brief intro meeting with potential advisor/s, TT Director Cella will confirm with you and your advisors. You will follow up by organizing three full-hour meetings between February and May 1. Cella will confirm with you in May if you want to continue into the program with your current advisor/s. Please reach out to her for all advisement-related questions, concerns and changes through your tenure in the program.
PEER GROUP MEETINGS
Please organize three monthly independent student-led sessions between February and March to share work and experiences online. These meetings are also an opportunity to discuss how you want to arrange your meeting in the program. With accepted applicants at the final deadline, this group will become your class of 2024. You will continue with your class Peer Group throughout the program. Please organize these sessions in any way you wish. Some students prefer a monthly open discussion session, others have arranged two “studio visits” each month, focussing the group's attention on each students work, twice a year. However you decide to work together, we strongly suggest you choose the same day and time every month. Some alums have been meeting for years. It’s a great way to support and sustain your praxis long-term.
RESIDENCY
Preflight researchers have the option to participate in the one-week January 2025 residency (space permitting).
