research interest

Anne-Marie’s research interests include participatory research, methods of co-creation, and inclusive design. Her work focuses on voice, inclusion, and the potential for Graphic Design to bring about social change. Through her PhD, she investigated the role of the designer in the facilitation of meaningful play between disabled and non-disabled children. This was an interdisciplinary collaboration between colleagues from the fields of Sociology and Mechanical Engineering at the Centre for Disability Studies, University of Leeds.

Her recent research at Lab4Living, Sheffield Hallam University, examined the role of design in Evidence Based Transformation within England’s National Health Service. It looked at ways in which knowledge is disseminated within, and between, elderly patient medical wards, and the role of design in this process. She has presented her research at conferences of international standing including Interaction Design and Children, Bremen, 2012; The Cambridge Workshop on Universal and Assistive Technology, 2014; the Design Management Institute conference, London College of Fashion, 2014; and 2CO:2 - Communicating Complexity, Tenerife, 2017.

Anne-Marie welcomes PhD applications from students with interdisciplinary research interests, particularly in the areas of co-design/co-creation, and projects designed to give voice to marginalised or underrepresented groups.
