TT alum & advisor Syowia Kyambi represents Kenya at 59th Biennale di Venezia

The pavilion of Kenya, curated by Jimmy Ogonga, under the title “Exercises in Conversation,” has been organized in consultation with the State Department of Culture and Heritage, and will showcase works by four Kenyan artists: Dickens Otieno, Syowia Kyambi, Wanja Kimani and Kaloki Nyamai.

The Pavilion of Kenya at the 59th Biennale di Venezia, is organized by Kurabu Projects and is open to the public from 21st April to 27th November 2022.

The Pavilion of Kenya will be formally inaugurated by Amb. (Dr.) Amina Mohamed, CAV, CBS, Cabinet Secretary, Sports, Culture & Heitage, Government of Kenya, on 22nd April 2022, at the Pavilion of Kenya, Fabrica 33, Calle Larga Dei Botteri 5063, Cannaregio, 3021, Venezia, Italy.

The 59th International Art Exhibition titled “The Milk of Dreams” has been curated by Cecilia Alemani.

In response to the overarching theme of the exhibition, “Exercises in Conversation” explores the relationships and dynamics between participants in a conversation, the inter-changing roles of both talker and listener, and how this complex relationship affects, influences and occupies the space of a story, of history and of pedagogy.

La Biennale di Venezia was founded in 1895 to promote and showcase the very best of contemporary art from around the world. Over the years it has grown to encompass all forms of artistic expressions, including cinema, music, theatre, architecture and dance. It is one of the most important international biennials and cultural institutions in the world, introducing hundreds of thousands of visitors to exciting new art every two years. The biennale will be open to the public from 22 April to 27 November 2021 in Venice and will include work by 71 individual participants from all around the world. 63 countries, including Kenya, will host national pavilions.
