A sale of original works to support the publication of a new book by John Newling, coinciding with the forthcoming exhibition at the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham 2020.

Ecology Works is the first comprehensive survey of John Newling’s ecological work to be published by Beam Editions in Spring 2020.

The book will document major artworks and exhibitions previously shown at: Wellcome Collection; The Barn; Turner Contemporary; Nymans garden – National Trust; The Collection Lincoln; Gallerie Duchamp Yvetot; The Herbert Gallery and Coventry Cathedral. New work for the Ikon Gallery, Birmingham and rarely seen work from the artist’s archive will also be featured.

The book will include essays from John Newling, Royal Academy writer Richard Davey, Anne Douglas – emeritus professor at Robert Gordon University and Dani Burrows – freelance curator and previously director of strategy at the Delfina Foundation.

Our Fundraising Target: Ikon Gallery, Birmingham and supporters of the artist have already contributed to the budget generously. We’d like to raise an additional £5,000 to increase the scope of the book and document new works that will be featured in the Ikon Gallery show in Spring 2020.

Works Available for Sale: We have worked alongside the artist to make a selection of original works available for sale to support the book. This is a rare opportunity to purchase early drawings dating from the late 1970s where as a young artist, he began to explore humanity’s relationship with nature. There is also a recent work Storm2014 from the Ecology works series also available.
