Guidelines for Multi-Session Events
Working agreement for a braver, inclusive environment fostering learning and growth:
➢ We treat each other with kindness and respect.
➢ We will take responsibility for our well-being.
➢ We assume the best intentions in all interactions.
➢ We create and hold space for multiple truths.
➢ We do not make assumptions about someone else's identity; further, not all disabilities are apparent.
➢ We don't assume what is normal for other people.
➢ We recognize power dynamics, our unconscious biases and the privileges we bring.
➢ We uphold confidentiality and do not share or publish anything without consent.
➢ Complex and challenging topics will arise.
➢ Avoid generalizations such as using "we" statements; speak from your experiences and use "I" statements.
➢ We are multilingual. Ask freely for clarification or translation.
➢ We are mindful of taking too much or too little space.
➢ We will all make mistakes.
Steps we will initiate if agreement conditions are broken:
1. Acknowledge what has taken place with calm and neutral language.
2. Request a session or personal time-out if needed.
3. Take time to care for those affected and acknowledge harm.
4. Discuss and set any necessary conditions to continue.
5. Ask anyone unable to agree to the new terms to leave the space.
6. Suspend the session if conditions are not met.
7. Inform residency or intensive staff and the TT director ASAP.
